Drowning in Music

Life is hard, and all too many people know it
They plug in and play away the pain
But when I put my earphones in
I don’t listen, I drown.

The music is a roaring river
I sink to the bottom and hold on tight
Until the currents throw me around
And I squeeze my eyes shut against the rhythm

Drowning in music and failing to breathe
I tug my earphones out and face life again
But when life becomes too hard
I sink back into the waves of my own sounds

And welcome them.
